Saint Francis Care is an integrated healthcare delivery system established by Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center. The Hospital has been an anchor institution in North Central Connecticut since its founding in 1897 by the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Chambéry. Licensed for 617 beds and 65 bassinets, it is one of the largest hospitals in Connecticut and the largest Catholic hospital in New England.
Saint Francis affiliated with Mount Sinai Hospital in 1990. This was the first recorded instance of collaboration between a Catholic hospital and a Jewish hospital in United States history. In 1995, the two institutions completed a formal corporate merger.

- Diabetes Care Center, Connecticut’s oldest comprehensive outpatient diabetes education program.
- Bariatric Center, accredited as a center of excellence by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and the Surgical Review Corporation, offering surgical treatment for obesity and related diseases.
- Joyce D. and Andrew J. Mandell Center for Comprehensive Multiple Sclerosis Care and Neuroscience Research, providing a coordinated and comprehensive approach to Multiple Sclerosis care.
- Stroke Center, providing rapid diagnosis, response and treatment of stroke through clinically advanced, leading-edge technology.
- Center for Advanced Wound Healing and Lymphedema Therapy, providing assessment, diagnosis, treatment and the restoration of function for patients with long-standing wound problems.
- The Hartford Regional Lead Treatment Center, the only lead poisoning treatment center for children in the Greater Hartford area, which serves all hospitals in Hartford.
- The Aetna Foundation Children’s Center, which provides assessment, diagnostic and treatment services to children who are the victims of abuse.
- Connecticut VNA Partners, providing home healthcare and hospice services.
Saint Francis Care providers also include such community-based and ambulatory services as: Alcohol and Drug Recovery Centers, Inc.; New Directions, Inc.; the Gengras Ambulatory Care Center; and the Saint Francis Care Medical Offices in Avon, East Hartford, Enfield, Glastonbury, Rocky Hill and West Hartford. The Asylum Hill Family Practice Center and the Burgdorf/Bank of America Health Center are operated in concert with the University of Connecticut Health Center.
Saint Francis maintains affiliations with Bristol Hospital and Saint Mary’s Hospital, Waterbury, which are independently licensed. Saint Francis and Bristol Hospital operate Collaborative Laboratory Services, which provides medical laboratory services to the two hospitals and other healthcare providers. Other Saint Francis affiliates include the Saint Francis Physician Hospital Organization, which contracts with third-party payers; Medworks - Occupational Health Services; Physical Therapy Partners; Connecticut Occupational Health Partners, L.L.C.; and Woodland Physician Associates.
A major teaching hospital affiliated with the University of Connecticut Schools of Medicine and Dental Medicine, Saint Francis participates in integrated residency and fellowship training programs in internal medicine, surgery and cardiology. The Hospital also offers free-standing residency programs in obstetrics/gynecology and general dentistry, and a fellowship in colorectal surgery.
